You know exactly what you’re getting when you have a game called Zombie Gunship! I was thrilled to help with the user interface and user experience of Limbic Studios’ flagship property. Bridging the gap from initial development to front-page featuring on the Apple iStore took a fair bit of doing. The company already had plenty of temp art in place, but designing the game “for real” required a wholesale re-imagining of not only the user experience, but the very conceits of the design itself. That meant, in many instances, going back to square one. The team was divided between San Francisco and Germany, so working with remote teams in farflung timezones was also a must. This proved especially challenging to present animations that had to be remotely integrated, so I began making little programs in Flash that would showcase animations & interactions in realtime. It was a godsend to remote coders who had to reverse-engineer animations without losing a step… or anything in translation, for that matter.

In the end, it was all worth the effort. Zombie Gunship Survival garnered huge praise for its slick design. It received an excellent 90/100 from AppAdvice, and the ever-coveted front page featuring on the Apple iStore (the lead up to that was an exciting little fever pitch, if one may editorialize…). One of the far more complicated and far-reaching projects I’ve taken on in recent years, I’m happy to say Zombie Gunship Survival was a resounding success and I was thrilled to be a small part of it.
