When I was an in-house user interface Artist, I made a lot of connections – many of whom would go on to start their own companies. Enter our hero – Seismic Games, made of the old guard from Pandemic (Electronic Arts). Seismic had been tasked with bringing Call of Duty Ghost’s companion app to life and tapped me to do some of the product design. This was an especially important project because Battlefield 4, Call of Duty’s closest rival had just released and simultaneously launched their companion app. Everybody was bringing their A-game for this one.
The work was a bottom-to-top construction from conceptualization, wireframing, to interactions with Activition’s art director to refine the ui asset creation. After a lot of hard work and a few hotel trips later, the companion app hit the market, making it ever more feature-rich than its longstanding competitor. The companion app was even spotlighted in Activision’s keynote address!
