THE NEW FORGE
Back in 2000, I created a Flash program – a mixture of a random name generator and word processor – that helps you create amazing fantasy names.
The site became so popular, I revisited it in 2017 starting from the first line of code and new branding
The project took 1 year as my “summer hotrod”, and although Flash is now disabled, the site still enjoys an incredible SEO influx and represents a clever use of UI and toolmaking.

Forging a New Destiny
The crown jewel of The New Forge is the desktop app itself, featuring a hand-keyed database of over 1700 words(!) and millions of combinations.
The User clicks or uses hotkeys to create single names, or arrays so they can workshop ideas.
Names they like can be saved on the notepad to the right, and even copy/pasted in other apps!
Fantasy Follow-through
But it wasn’t enough just to make the desktop app; I created a whole web presence and social campaign, too!
The WordPress site is a clean, simple use of the app’s branding, while also adding a Gallery of hand-curated words
There are also Twitter Movies that perfectly loop to help promote the desktop app and create tons of community involvement
